-Artist's Statement

 

PIECES OF THE PAST

 

I create and specialize in one-of-a-kind art jewelry. Each piece is unique and meticulously executed using the highest quality materials. Precious metal medallions comprise the body and designs and hand-selected semi-precious stones are prevalent in my work.

 

Miniature antiquities, such as pieces of Roman bronze dating from 100AD or Greek coins from 350 BC are transformed into modern-day designs with contemporary settings. Most of the pieces are created with gemstone embellishments that lend them an up-to-the-minute edge.

 

This year I've been working with ancient coins (from Rome, Greece and the Byzantine Empire) ? creating one-of-a-kind pieces with these enchanting images. I also use images of Greek and Roman mythological characters that I cast from Glass intaglios.

 

"When I wear a necklace or bracelet that was inspired by these antiquities, it connects something within me. I enjoy creating these wearable works of art, 'reincarnating' pieces of the past and giving people a chance to enjoy them in a new way."

"The paintings I create reflect the art that was once created by ancient Mediterranean cultures. In my work, I strive to convey the tranquil beauty and timeless appeal of these past creations. My inspiration to paint in this style evolved from extensive travel abroad as wall as through comprehensive studies of art history. I enjoy working with colors and images found in ancient frescoes, architecture and landscapes.

 

I created my paintings using a mixed media on canvas which includes acrylics, pastels, watercolors and gold lief as well as hand-carved wood block images. Multiple layering of these media create depth nd dimension. Several layers of glazing are then applied to the finished painting to achieve and aged-by0time effect hat resembles and old world style of art.

 

Each painting revives the elegance reminiscent of the murals found in Pompeii, Crete, and the ruins of the Etruscans. They have an ethereal quality, giving the viewer a sense of peace and well being."
