Laila Rezai

Laila Rezai is an Iranian-American artist originally born in Tehran, Iran. She has spent most of her life in the United States, growing up on the East Coast, attending art school in the deep South (The Savannah College of Art and Design) and has found roots in California for the past 16 years.

Her Middle Eastern origins, combined with Western influences have resulted in imagery that brings together disparate elements through visual storytelling. Her background in the graphic arts cultivated a love of letterforms, typography, grids, and patterns. She’s fascinated by language, and the many incarnations that humanity seeks to connect—even in the broken parts that manifest in that attempt.

Laila works primarily with collage and mixed media to create her pieces. Often combining old paper ephemera, layered with acrylics. A juxtaposition of the excavated “old,” combined with the “new,” weaving the stories into one.
